Kim Mattson Residency Timeline

2002? or 2003?  Moved to 6899 W. Kimball Drive, Kimball, Wisconsin.2004  Registered as a Wisconsin voter, possessed a Wisconsin Drivers License and voted in the 2004 Wisconsin Primary and the 2004 Presidential Election.

Sept 2004-Feb 2008  Regularly and routinely voted in Wisconsin primaries and general elections.  The last election Kim Mattson voted in was a Wisconsin primary in February 2008.

March 31, 2008  At a special short notice meeting in Ironwood Township, the policy was changed to allow a township employee to run for office and keep their job if the incumbent chooses not to seek reelection.  In the past, an employee would have to take a leave of absence.  This special meeting benefited Kim Mattson because she had the most to gain and nothing to lose by running for the Supervisor position.  The wisdom in the previous board policy was not to create an unfair advantage by allowing a township employee that has “lot of face time” with township residents during office hours over the average citizen who would not have day-to-day access with the voter information and face-to-face contact.

April 28, 2008  Because Rick Estola chose not to seek reelection as Ironwood Township Supervisor, Kim Mattson went down to Secretary of State office in Bessemer, MI to register to vote and obtain a Michigan Drivers License.  The reason Mattson registered to vote in Bessemer is because in Michigan you can get your drivers license and register to vote in the same office.  If Kim Mattson had possessed a Michigan Drivers License earlier, she could have simply registered to vote in the same office where she has worked since July 2000.  Because Kim Mattson was still actually living with her two children and boyfriend in Kimball, Wisconsin, she needed an Ironwood Township address.  She used an address associated with her sister (Sherri Rock) and Donald Sobolewski (E5680 Airport Road, a four-room home, no basement, approximately 700-800 sq ft).   During this time, she continued to live in Kimball, WI with her two children and her boyfriend in a three bedroom home.

April 28, 2008 (same day)  Started to gather signatures for herself on a nominating petition for the position of Ironwood Township Supervisor.  Turns in the nominating petition a few days later.

June 11, 2008  Officially changes her registered Ironwood Township address to N10676 Lake Road after procuring a home to move into.

Summer 2008-August 5, 2008 Started to actively campaign for the office of Supervisor.  Jyl Olson and Gayla Salmi actively campaigned for Mattson.  The three women went from door-to-door and placed ads in the newspaper to vote for all three together.  Experience was the theme!  At no time did Mattson address the Wisconsin residency issue.  There were three other long-time Ironwood Township residents running for the office of supervisor.  If Mattson was upfront with the voters about her residency and how she used her sister’s home to establish a township address, maybe the election results would have been different.  She only defeated Marvin LaGrew by 17 votes.
